CHANCES Employment Project

Citizens Advice Diss, Thetford and District (Cadat) are delighted to be partners in a £4.9m project with the aims of helping people to get back into work and to support people with barriers to work, for example, ill health.

Led by Norfolk County Council, we will be working with Voluntary Norfolk, Norfolk Citizens Advice, and Future Projects. Local advocates will be based in the seven Norfolk district areas, working to provide personalised one to one support. Our advocates will be based in the Thetford area.

The scheme will provide tailored help for people unable to access current national support schemes. Depending on individual needs, the project will help to identify skills gaps and find suitable training and qualifications, support to access services to boost health and wellbeing, or finding ways to overcome barriers such as transport or accessing childcare. This will include providing help to access services for those with physical or learning disabilities, with support available from specialists working closely with the team.

Mel Jones, CEO, Cadat, said: “Employment advice has been a major issue during the past year. The arrival of Chances is particularly timely and we are proud to be involved with this important project. It will help us to better support people furthest from the labour market, while giving a much needed boost to local residents excluded from work by Covid-19.”

The project, administered by Norfolk County Council, has a total budget of £4.9 million, of which £2.5m is funded by the European Social Fund. The remainder comes from match-funders in Norfolk, including Norfolk County Council, The New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership, and Norfolk’s Pooled Business Rates Programme.
