Citizens Advice Diss, Thetford & District first started working with people with cancer in hospitals in 2011, with a contract from Citizens Advice, but when this ended the Big C cancer charity invited bids to continue that work with them. After discussion with our neighbouring bureaux it was agreed that because of our proven experience in this field, we would bid for this contract and we were successful.
We provide support at:
- The Big C Centre, Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital in Norwich
- Dereham Road Centre in Norwich
We also provide support via telephone and virtual appointments.
This work requires a very special adviser who is not only very competent in welfare benefits but who has empathy with the hospital patients, some of whom have life limiting conditions or are terminally ill.
Our dedicated specialist staff advise patients face to face in the centres, or provide telephone/video appointments for remote support.
All the advisers working under this contract experience great job satisfaction because they know they can make a real difference to both the patient and their families at all stages of their treatment journey.
